Mud Season is Here!

It’s that time of year. As maple sugaring season winds down, spring is in the air… and with it, mud is on the ground. Ā And there’s plenty of it, too, as it arrives on schedule on the Randolph Community Forest roads. As a result, Forest roads are now gated and closed until the snow melts and the roads dry out.

We close the gates to avoid driving vehicles on the roads at this time, since they are so susceptible to damage right now. Thanks for cooperating, and we’ll post a note here when the roads are dry and the gates are open!

Skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling is over for another year.

Here's why letting the roads dry out is so important-- saturated Community Forest roads are easily damaged this time of year.

At the Pond of Safety, elevation 2,200', "ice out" is still more than a few days off.

Sure, the Pond of Safety is still ice-covered... but we certainly wouldn't recommend trying to walk on it!

That ice is getting thin!

And, 100' higher in elevation, past the pond, the roads are still snow-covered... making this one visitor very happy.
